Coolatai Local

Travelling with kids

Family days out

Gwydir works for families when drives stay short and snacks stay long. Coolatai camping keeps nights cheap; Warialda and Bingara cover pools, parks and treat stops; fossicking and Living Classroom turn dirt into the day's story.

Parent tips

Pack more water than you think. Midsummer shade is scarce on some lookouts. Free camps are often self-contained — not every riverside spot has toilets.

Myall Creek Memorial is important history; visit respectfully with older kids who can sit with a serious story. It is not a playground stop.

Confirm pool and café hours with Warialda or Bingara Visitor Information Centres before promising ice cream.
